A lifelong martial artist, he also helped design police defensive tactics curricula and continues to teach criminal justice at several colleges. Joe grew up in Cincinnati, Ohio, the middle of five children, and has always been drawn to stories that explore honor, transformation, and moral complexity. He coached high school inline hockey and now spends his days walking with his border collie-husky mix, reflecting on character arcs and plot twists.
